APD-Agency for Persons with Disabilities

CBTAC- Certified Business Technical Assistant Consultant

CBTAC is a program developed by GHA to support VR Counselors and individuals with disabilities interested in pursuing Self-Employment or Supported Self-Employment as an employment outcome.

GHA- Griffin-Hammis Associates

Griffin-Hammis Associates “is an award-winning, internationally recognized pioneer in the field of customized employment services for people with disabilities.”

Entrepreneur

A person who organizes and operates a business or company takes on greater than normal financial risks to do so.

IRS

Internal Revenue Service – is the revenue service of the United States federal government, which is responsible for collecting taxes and administering the Internal Revenue Code, the main body of the federal statutory tax law.

Organizational Management

The art of getting people together on a common platform to make them work towards a common predefined goal. It goes beyond a corporate structure; it requires leaders to have methods to resolve issues and develop solutions that help the business move closer to its desired goals and vision.

Self-employment

Self-Employment – The state of working for oneself as a freelance business owner rather than for an employer.

Sliding Scale Fees

A sliding fee scale is the model providers use for clients who cannot afford service otherwise, for example, clients with low income or who need to self-pay. Such fees are reduced to allow clients to afford the price of products or services and make the payments.

SSA-Social Security Administration

An independent agency of the U.S. federal government that administers Social Security, a social insurance program consisting of retirement, disability, and survivor benefits.

SSI – Supplemental Security Income

Social Security administers this program. To pay benefits to people with limited income and resources who are disabled, blind, or age 65 or older. Blind or disabled children may also get SSI.

SSDI-Social Security Disability Insurance

A payroll tax-funded federal insurance program of the United States government. It is managed by the Social Security Administration and is designed to provide monthly benefits to people who have a medically determinable disability that restricts their ability to be employed.

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR)

VR Counselor

Help people with disabilities live fuller, more independent lives by assisting them in securing gainful employment or self-employment.

WSC-Waiver Support Coordinator

The Waiver Support Coordinator is the service provider who advocates, identifies, develops, coordinates, and accesses support and services for individuals with disabilities. Support Coordination: Your state may provide the service through a waiver, other Medicaid State Plan, and other state funding sources.
